Car Park

Ease of parking

Since May 2015 BPC have endeavoured, with some success, to keep the parking spaces available to users of the local shops, pubs and services and discouraged long term parking by commuters or city shoppers. It is not a Park and Ride!

Future plans

With the opening of the footbridge and cycle way and improved access to the river and surrounding hills and valleys for recreational activities parking demand will increase.

Current parking limits are for a maximum three hour stay between 8 and 6 monday to friday.

Signage after enforcement request
Our priority will always be to encourage residents to use the local village services and BPC support the principle of 1 hour free parking for all.

Those who would like to park for longer periods whilst they enjoy the recreational activities in and around our village may have to be asked to pay for that privilege if a sensible balance is to be kept between needs of short term and longer term users.
Parking charges are a sensitive subject and the Parish Council will take an informed view before making any changes to the present arrangements.

Accessibility

Those less mobile are not forgotten and the blue badge spaces and new ramps to replace some kerbs are already in place.

The pavement outside the shops has been a long term problems for most users and residents

Narrow footpath and open drain up to 2016
BPC have for many years been pressing for improvement to this area and Bath&nes finally placed a contract for this work after many meetings with the present council. Work was completed in 2016

Determined to make this commercial center of our village as attractive as possible BPC erected six twin basket planters at the same time as the pavement improvement along with large planters nearby;  these are regularly maintained by our Handyman Bert and council members.

The opening of the new pavement in May 2016

Linked to the car park by a light controlled pedestrian crossing with new accessible ramps there is at last a safe way for all to use the village facilities.
